The Catalan Ombudsman calls for urgent government actions to guarantee the right of children to adequate food |

The
Catalan Ombudsman, Rafael Ribó, has appeared before the Catalan Parliament
to explain the report Child malnutrition in Catalonia and has asked for
changes in social policies to fight this problem. Although a structural
problem of undernourishment has not been detected, there is a problem of
child malnutrition for economic reasons, that is, a problem of children
without a balanced diet because of economic difficulties. More information |

The
ombudsman has apologized because of the delay in undertaking actions and
issuing suggestions; for instance, asking for a moratorium on the use of
rubber bullets. He has also pointed out the delay of the authorities and
the concerned institutions in approaching this issue. Furthermore, he has
reminded the Catalan Minister of Home Affairs of his commitment to enforce
the agreements passed by the Catalan Parliament regarding public

An investigation is initiated about the supervision of children under guardianship |

As a
result of the arrest of a suspected child molester that was a foster
parent to children under guardianship, the Catalan Ombudsman has initiated
an ex-officio action and has addressed the Catalan Social welfare
Department and the Catalan Intitute for Adoption and Foster Care to

The
Catalan Ombudsman and the Deputy Ombudsman for the Defence of Children's
Rights have appeared before the Ombudsman Commission of the Catalan
Parliament to explain the last report of children's rights. The report
highlights that public authorities have not preserved the policies and
benefits aimed at children, especially those in a vulnerable situation.
One of the most noteworthy suggestions is a guaranteed economic
sufficiency income for underprivileged families with

The
Ombudsman has suggested the Spanish Government and municipalities to grant
one-parent families the same tax benefits as large families. This measure
is aimed to prevent and soften the high prevalence of poverty among
one-parent families and is consistent with the duty of the public
administration of assisting families with special

The Catalan Ombudsman insists on the need of a debt restructuring system |

After
checking the compliance with the Ombudsman recommendations on housing, the
Catalan Ombudsman office states that measures taken in cases of mortgage
foreclosure proceedings are aimed at a little number of debtors and
suggest that a 30% of real state purchased by the bad bank at low cost be
used for social housing. Furthermore, the Ombudsman insists on the amend
of the Law regulating local taxes so people who are evicted do not have to

Catalan Ombudsman initiated an ex-officio action due to the mistakes
pointed out during the math test in the access to university exams. After
looking into this issue, Rafael Ribó has suggested setting up protocols to
